JEDDAH: Saudi Border Guards foiled efforts to smuggle 536.82kg of hashish into Saudi Arabia and arrested 10 smugglers.
Border Guards spokesman Col. Saher Al-Harbi said that many attempts were made to infiltrate the Kingdom’s borders in Jazan and Najran to smuggle narcotics.
“As a result, 10 smugglers were arrested, six of whom were Ethiopians, one Yemeni, one Somali and two Saudis,” he said. He added that 536.82kg of hashish was seized in their possession.
Al-Harbi confirmed that the hashish was confiscated and the smugglers were transferred to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
He said that these strikes against drug smugglers were supported by Interior Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Saud bin Naif and based on his directives, and were directly supervised by the director general of the Border Guards, Gen. Awad bin Eid Al-Balawi.
